YOU PROBABLY DON'T KNOW HOW TO BREATHE!?

What is cardiac coherence? Let's sum it all up in a few lines, although there are whole books on the subject!

The primary function of cardiac coherence is to bring the autonomic nervous system back into balance, so that the whole body functions harmoniously and optimally. If the body is functioning optimally and we are able to relax, we reduce our stress. STRESS and if we reduce our STRESS, then we promote a terrain (your body) conducive to well-being and health.

Here are some of the benefits of repeated daily use of cardiac coherence; ;

⁃ Calm the restless mind,

⁃ Coping with a stressful event,

⁃ Alleviate pain,

⁃ Prepare for an exam or sports competition,

⁃ Be centered and focused before an interview or public speaking engagement,

⁃ Make sleep easier

⁃ Resisting an addiction like smoking or drinking,

⁃ Increase physical & intellectual performance,

⁃ Strengthen the immune system,

⁃ Increase adaptability,

⁃ Modulating the effects of aging,

⁃ Open up your intuition,

⁃ Maximize your concentration or that of a child,

⁃ Helping hyperactive children,

To name but a few!

Did you know that the heart has neurons just like the brain? Well, a lot less, you might say, but what has been scientifically proven is that the brain gives orders that the heart doesn't always follow. On the other hand, if the heart gives orders to the brain, it's unequivocal: the brain will obey. Isn't that strange? So, to cut a long story short, if we can «align» ourselves with the heart through breathing, so that it calms down and becomes regular, the brain will perceive this bliss and stability... This allows us to center ourselves and align our machine so that it's 100% operational. Because we can tell ourselves all kinds of stories, but these days it's almost impossible to be well aligned and composed. As a result, we make bad, impulsive decisions, we're tired, exhausted, stressed out, lacking performance both at work and in everyday life...

All in all, taking 15 to 20 minutes a day in 5-minute blocks can change your life if you put your mind to it! And you know what! IT'S FREE! For once, a «miracle» solution is free and doesn't require little pills!

HOW TO PRACTICE CARDIAC COHERENCE?

Have you ever seen a peaceful little baby sleeping? If you've noticed, it breathes through the lower abdomen, not the sternum or ribcage, and even less through the clavicles, because yes, some hyperstressed people breathe by pulling up their shoulders. The best way to breathe is through the abdomen. Imagine breathing in through the perineum (the part near the coccyx and the anus) and then letting your belly expand. 5 seconds of inhalation and 5 seconds of exhalation. This is called a 6-cycle-minute rhythm. 6 breaths per minute, i.e. 10 seconds inspiration/expiration (5/5). This is the most common rhythm for 75% people. Don't make the mistake of inhaling too quickly and then holding your breath to complete your 5 seconds. The same goes for exhaling. Take your time and adapt your breathing to match the 5/5 (i.e. 5 seconds of inhalation and 5 seconds of exhalation).

So, sitting upright or lying down, start your breathing cycle by inhaling through the nose and exhaling either through the nose or the mouth. It's important to breathe in through the nose. The nose is an air filtration factory that prevents certain impurities from entering our system.

Practice for about 5 minutes, at least 3 times a day. When you wake up, before lunch and at bedtime! It doesn't get any more complicated than that! It should become second nature to you. You can use your music application like Spotify or Apple Music as a guide. Type in «cardiac coherence» and you'll find plenty of relaxing soundtracks calibrated to 5/5. Or there's an app on iPhone and Android called RESPIRELAX +. It's totally free and will help you align your breathing rhythm.

Give it a try! And above all, be patient. You'll feel the benefits on your mood fairly quickly, BUT for deeper benefits, you need to practice often and regularly!

As I said earlier, there are plenty of books on the subject, which I've tried to summarize for you in just a few minutes. If you'd like to learn more, I invite you to visit your favorite bookstore to do some further research. There are some very good books on cardiac coherence.

There are plenty of other ways of saturating your body with O2, such as hyperbarics. (HYPERLINKS)
