On January 5, 2009, a professional skier suffered a serious knee fracture requiring rapid surgical intervention. After the operation on January 7, 2009, this famous skier was offered treatment in a hyperbaric chamber to help regenerate his injury, which could disable him for several months or even a year. Let's not forget that we're in 2009, and if hyperbaric treatment is still unknown to the public today, imagine it in 2009!
He agrees to carry out these treatments. 30 sessions in a hyperbaric chamber over 6 weeks, i.e. 5 times a week. The results were more than satisfactory! On March 3, 2009, he put on his skis and returned to the slopes. as if there had never been an accident!
⁃ Football superstar Terrel Owens used hyperbaric therapy to recover from an ankle injury sustained during the season. He would go on to play in the Superbowl that same year! (Fox Sports)
⁃ Linebacker Kevin Burnett says he was able to play soccer again after knee cartilage surgery thanks to hyperbaric chamber sessions (Dallas Cowboys official Weekly).
⁃ Cincinnati Bengals defenseman Bryan Robinson says, «The hyperbaric chamber sessions were the catalyst that allowed my non-healing ankle injury to finally heal!»
These stories are just a few of hundreds and hundreds!
According to the latest studies published at the IHMA's (International Hyperbaric Medical Association) annual HBOT hyperbaric symposium, hyperbaric chamber sessions are of great benefit to people in the sporting world. We're talking about :
⁃ Slowing down the inflammation process
⁃ Favor and increase muscle tissue development
⁃ Increased regeneration and fracture repair
⁃ Inflammation reduction
⁃ Improved range of motion
What about concussions that occur during sports activities such as field hockey, soccer or cycling accidents? Hyperbarics could then :
⁃ Increase tissue oxygenation
⁃ Promote the formation of new neural networks
⁃ Increase stem cell levels in the blood
⁃ Promoting neuroplasticity
Finally, whether it's for a concussion, an accident or a sports injury, hyperbaric treatment is a must! In fact, recent studies seem to demonstrate the benefits that hyperbaric treatment could have on chronic sports-related pain, such as certain forms of arthritis.
