Lyme disease... The season is starting up again. Several TVA news articles have already mentioned it... It says: insect-borne diseases on the rise, lyme disease already claiming victims in Quebec (see links below). What distresses me most is seeing the nonchalance of several doctors regarding this devastating illness. I don't want to generalize, but in the field of hyperbaric therapy at Oxy Expert, I've heard all sorts of horror stories. The biggest problem is the difficulty in getting the disease diagnosed. Most people have to pay out of pocket and travel to the United States for an official diagnosis. After that, getting it recognized in Canada is another story! I have a mother whose young, 3-year-old son was bitten by a tick. She called her doctor. She explained that she had removed a tick and even saw the characteristic bull's-eye rash. The doctor's verdict: «No worries, if he gets a fever, then come see me, but not before?!» Today, 1 year later, although the youngster has not been officially diagnosed, he still has many symptoms of chronic pain... Congratulations to the Nobel Prize winner who has potentially mortgaged the life of this youngster and his parents! People like Sabrina Roy and Simon Martin, to name but a few, are fighting hard for recognition of lyme disease, as well as for government help to finance the hundreds of drugs they have to take and potential hyperbaric chamber sessions to increase the effectiveness of antibiotics and «boost» their immune systems! Hats off to them and their courage! Anyway, the moral of the story is that if you see a tick or that famous target on you or one of your children, don't even hesitate to go to the emergency room to get treated as quickly as possible and avoid any potential destructive problems! And don't forget that Oxynova hyperbaric chamber treatments can give most people suffering from the disease a boost... Have a good summer and stay vigilant!
